City Council
Overview
By population, Meade is classified as a 3rd Class City. The City Council is the Governing Body of the City. The Governing Body consists of five Council Members, Mayor, City Administrator, City Clerk, and City Attorney. The City Council meets on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the City Building. The public is encouraged to attend the City Council meetings.
The City Council has a diverse number of powers. In general terms, it sets the policy for the City. It devises a budget for the year and approves it and sets the tax levy for the City. The Mayor and Council Members are elected by the citizens of Meade and serve for four years, staggered two year terms. The Mayor appoints the City Clerk and the City Attorney yearly with the approval of the City Council.
